King Saud Medical City (KSMC) is one of the largest general hospitals in Riyadh. King Saud Medical City consists of three hospitals including: Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital, Pediatric Hospital. Moreover, it includes King Fahd Kidney Center and Dental Center.
King Saud Medical City has a Research Center. It has 1500 beds of which 180 beds are in the intensive-care unit beds. King Saud Medical City was established in 1956 and it included in this time 450 beds and consists of the following departments: General Surgery Department, including the Ortho - Medicine, childbirth and children - Laboratory - Pharmacy - Radiology - Vaccination. In 1962, outpatient clinics were opened, then the opening of the Central Laboratory and Blood Bank Center, as well as respiratory diseases, then physiotherapy department was created, a separate department for Kidneys was opened and the separation of the Children's Department as well as the Gynecology and childbirth Department  and turned them to independent hospitals in addition to the Riyadh Central Hospital, a medical center specializing in dentistry was opened and it is one of the most  advanced centers in the region, then the integration of Gynecology and childbirth Hospital and Children's Hospital in addition to the General Hospital to be under the name of Riyadh Medical Complex, then the King Fahad Charitable Center for Kidneys was opened, then a unit for Prosthetics was opened. It was previously known as King Saud Hospital, later on it became Riyadh Central Hospital and then Riyadh Medical Complex (Al Shamesi) and Now King Saud Medical City because of the breadth and the increasing number of fields and specializations.
