Mina is a valley surrounded by mountains from the north and south sides, receiving inhabitants only at period of Hajj season. It is bordered from Mecca side by Jamarat Al Aqaba and from Mashar Muzdalifah by Mahsar Valley. Mina is located between Mecca and Mashar Muzdalifah and 7 km in the eastern north of the Holy Haram. Besides, it is within the Holy Haram domain. 
Historian said the name of  is attributed to allowed by Allah bloodshed at Hajj and it is said because Adam wished heaven, and others said due to people gathering; Arab called any gathering of people Mina Abraham -pbuh- stoned jamarat at Mina and offered sacrifice instead of his son Ismail -pbuh-, about whom Allah said And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast * Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon his face * We called unto him: O Abraham! * Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good * Lo! that verily was a clear test Mashar Mina is of great importance at Hajj rituals; pilgrims remained at Mina most of the rituals period. Pilgrims accommodate at Mina at Al Tarwiyah Day, the 8th day of Dhul Hijjah and perform prayers of Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Fajr. At the sunrise of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, pilgrims head to Mash’ar Arafat where they spend the Al Waqfa Al Kubra Day on Mount Arafat. At the sunset of the day, they head to Al Mashar Al Haram of Muzdalifah. And at the dawn of 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, pilgrims return to Mashar Mina to stone Jamarat Al Aqaba which called Al Jamarat Al Kubra Pilgrims stay at Mina for three days called Al Tashreeq Days; days of 11th, 12th, and 13th in order to stone three jamarats include: Jamarat Al Aqaba, Al Jamarat Al Wusta, and Al Jamarat Al Sughra. At Mina, there are Al Khaif Mosque, Al Morsalat Mosque, Al Kabsh Mosque, and Al Kawthar Mosque. In the last few years, Mina saw great development; bridges, tunnels, spaces and modern tents were constructed as well as developing Al Jamarat Bridge to ease stoning .
