King Abdulaziz University Hospital - which is one of King Abdulaziz University Medical City facilities - was inaugurated during the term of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz in 1396 AH corresponding to 1949 AD with total capacity of 200-bed. Since that day, a new medical center was officially inaugurated in 1417 AH corresponding to 1997 AD. The total area of the hospital and the outpatient department is about 118,000 m2 containing 4,788 rooms including 132 classrooms, and the number of beds reached 845 in the hospital in addition to 157 bed dedicated for daily care units, the hospital also includes general and specialized clinics, which exceeds two hundred clinic. The hospital mission is summed up by serving the community by providing patient care services at all levels, providing a suitable environment for the education and training of health professionals and promoting research. The hospital crew and board of directors work hard to make King Abdulaziz University Hospital to become one of leading centers in practicing evidence-based medicine in the Middle East, it has been reflected through obtaining international accreditations such as the Accreditation Canada International and the recognition of the American Association of Blood Banks. The hospital has several specialized departments such as radiology, blood bank, the department of surgery, internal medicine, department of pediatrics, department of obstetrics and gynecology, and other departments in addition to a range of centers of excellence as the center of excellence in osteoporosis research, Princess Al Jawhara center of excellence in hereditary disorders and Al-Amoudi center of excellence in breast cancer care. The hospital has many medical achievements such as cochlear implantation, intramedullary lengthening and genital reconstruction, it also introduced many modern systems, such as Da Vinci robotic surgical system and intraoperative radiation therapy. Hospital facilities also include a helipad and nearly 1233 parking lot, and the future projects can be summarized in increasing the hospital capacity to reach 1002 beds, and the construction of intensive care unit tower and building a new maternity and children's hospital in addition to a new clinical skills’ center.
