King Khalid University
King Khalid University is a public university, distributed over several towns in the Asir Province in southwest of Saudi Arabia, it was founded in 1419 AH, by order of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, King Saud University and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University merged to become King Khalid University. The university started with four faculties: the Faculty of Sharia and the fundamentals of Islam, the Faculty of Arabic Language and Social and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Education. The existing colleges were restructured and a number of new colleges were introduced and girls' colleges and faculties of Education and Health Sciences were included, the total number of colleges reached forty seven in addition to the female students’ study center. King Khalid University in Abha, is the largest Saudi university at the moment with more than 47 colleges, it is the sixth at the national level and the twenty first at the regional level according to Webmatrix 2012 classification. As for the university city, King Khalid University signed memorandum of understanding with King Saud University to the latter represented by King Abdullah Research and Consulting Studies Institute for the preparation of studies and documents necessary for competition for the preparation of a master plan and designs of buildings and facilities in the city. The University City project in Faraa is one of the leading and most remarkable projects of higher education in Saudi Arabia. The project was implemented as phases, the first phase was the infrastructure, which includes two service buildings, and services tunnel of 17 km long that contains all electromechanical components necessary for all buildings, the other phases included 13 colleges spread over 17 building with total area of about 570,000 m2 , housing for teachers, housing for students, Medical City, which includes all the various medical specialties, an integrated and qualified university hospital which serves all medical specialties with a capacity of 800 beds. King Khalid University includes a number of scientific, theoretical and medical colleges covering the cities and provinces of Asir region, it also includes a number of scientific centers such as Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Environmental and Tourism Research Center and the Tropical Disease Research Center.
